Market scene

March 14, 2018 7AM Angono Public Market

Very early in the morning, I headed towards our town's public market. Previously I went here to do an ocular of the place and looked for vulnerabilities and good lighting portions. I then proceeded in asking for permission in taking photos at the consumer welfare desk located inside the market. The officials were kind enough to allow me to take photos and told their guards and staff to allow me in taking photos since it was for a school project. I did several rounds of just being incognito and felt a bit awkward in taking photos of people buying and selling at the market. Perhaps it was new to them that people took photos in this mundane place. The market was wet, noisy, and full of movement and people. Yet, I find it pleasing that there was no odor and the floor was generally clean, moreover the lights on individual vendors captured my attention and from here I took on to take photos of the vendors. I realized that they were not that awkward and I needed to project a positive and warm attitude towards them so that it will be projected towards the lens. The result was warm smiles and photos titled: HUGAS KAMAY, DOUBT, MAUI and SONS, and PALENGKERO. Of course, there were also times that people were wary of me taking photos of them. This effect could be seen in the dubious shot of “UNCERTAIN” Lastly, as I leave the marketplace, I then propped my tripod to shoot some moving vehicles, I took several shots of jeepneys, tricycles, and lots of motorcycles. As I review one of the photos, I was delighted to see that one of the passengers in the jeepney had looked in the camera and posed with a smile. This was the story behind the photo “SABIT SABIK” It is these photos that reminds me of the resilience and happy disposition of the Filipino people.
